Step 210 Define Business System Options (BSO’s)

There are several possibilities for the required logical system in the project. Each alternative will differ in terms of services offered, impact on the organization and financial costs and benefits.

  1. Firstly the requirements, which must be met by any solution, are identified

  2. Up to six outlined Business System Options should be created

  3. Outlined Business System Options should be discussed with responsible users and narrowed down to two or three

  4. Short listed Business System Options are described in detail, i.e. cost/benefit analysis and an impact analysis.

 

Step 220 Select Business System Option (BSO)

The project board needs to decide the direction of the project and commit resources to its continuance.

  1. The Project Board must decide on a Business System Option from the alternatives presented to them.

  2. The selected Business System Option is reworked to incorporate changes agreed by the Project Board, and the explanations of the decisions taken are recorded.
